Volunteering Opportunites

Join our volunteers volunteering from home, supporting each other and the community.

Our volunteering opportunities have changed in line with social distancing regulations.

We offer a number of ways for you to get involved in volunteering - whether you can only spare a few hours, or you're looking to develop your relationship with shmu, we will help you find the right opportunity for you.

TellUs volunteering opportunities

It has never been more important to share news and updates with our community. TellUs is our vital link with our community. Our volunteers source and share information about services and updates of what is happening in Aberdeen. this can be done via email or recorded soundbites.

shmuFM volunteering opportunities

shmuFM Presenter - Presenters script and record radio shows at home. All volunteers will be trained on how to record shows from home.

Co-presenter - Similar role to that of a presenter, you share the role as presenters or group of presenters.

Interviewer/Editor - Arrange and host interviews over the phone, the audio collected can then be used on air to enhance a show and give more information to the listener. You will be trained in editing audio and be able to produce this to broadcast quality.

Show Supporter - For those of you who would like to volunteer, but dont have the technical capacity to do so, we can support you to record links and take your playlists and turn them into a show.

Magazine volunteering opportunities

Editorial member - Editorial members do a bit of everything. They attend online meetings for their magazine, write and source stories, take part in interviews, take photos, help with proof-reading and public distribution. You can be as involved as you want to be, the choice is up to you!

Writing articles and features - shmu's community magazines exist to provide a platform for local people to share stories relevant to them and their area.

Interviewing - If you love meeting new people and finding out what's going on in your area then you could support the magazine teams with interviewing. We are still interviewing, just not in person right now.

Sourcing content - Are you one of those people with an ear to the ground about what's happening in your community? This role is ideal for you if you want to help make sure your community magazine is full of interesting stories which are important to your area.

Proof reading - We need people to help proof-read all the content that goes into the community magazines.
